Mugshot of quadriplegic cornhole star accused of murder emerges

Dayton Webber, a quadruple amputee and professional cornhole player, is now facing serious charges after being accused of murdering his friend. The 27-year-old’s mugshot, taken in Maryland, reveals a pale and tired man, following his extradition from Virginia.

Webber was brought back to Maryland on Tuesday after allegedly fleeing to Virginia subsequent to the tragic events of March 22. He is now charged with first- and second-degree murder, along with a firearm-related offense, all connected to the fatal shooting of Bradrick Michael Wells.

The accusations suggest a grim scenario where Webber shot Wells twice in the head. Following the incident, he purportedly sought assistance from witnesses to dispose of the body in La Plata.

Details from Detective Mark Bigelow of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office outline a chilling sequence of events. On March 22, Webber reportedly drove his white Tesla to pick up two acquaintances, who then joined him in the back seat. Wells, the victim, was allegedly seated in the front passenger seat at the time.

An intense argument is said to have erupted between Webber and Wells, both 27 years old, escalating quickly into violence. According to Detective Bigelow’s report, amidst the heated exchange, Webber allegedly brandished a gun and fired two deadly shots at Wells.

‘During the argument, Webber pulled a gun out and shot the victim twice in the head,’ the detective added.

Webber allegedly asked the backseat passengers to help him remove the victim from his car, but they refused and exited the vehicle before he sped off with Wells’ body still in the front passenger seat.

Webber reportedly became a quadruple amputee as a baby due to a blood infection that ultimately led to sepsis.

‘They suggested he be baptized and given his last rites,’ Webber’s mother, Natalie, told ESPN in 2023. ‘That just didn’t enter my thoughts that I was going to lose him.’

Ultimately, his arms were amputated just above the elbow, giving him the ability to pin objects between his upper arms. It’s this trait that allowed him to become a competitive cornhole player, ultimately joining the American Cornhole League in 2023.

‘At first, it took me a little while to get it there to the board consistently,’ he told ESPN of his cornhole obsession, which began at age 8. ‘I was able to compensate the grip on the bag by just grabbing the corner of it with me propelling myself forward.

‘It’s something I’ve been doing my whole life, is overcoming things that people didn’t think I can do.’

Interestingly, this was the second piece ESPN did on Webber. As a 12-year-old wrestler in Maryland, he was featured in an ESPN.com article.

‘I like wrestling better than any other sport,’ he told ESPN.com. ‘I like using my strength and being fit. And I don’t have to rely on other people to do stuff for me like you do in football. Sometimes when I watch my teammates in certain situations I wish I had hands, but I just try to do things my own way.’

Webber is due back in court next month.

According to former girlfriend Tori Mattingly, Webber has an ‘angry dark side’ that many people are unaware of.

Mattingly told TMZ that the pair were initially friends before they dated for four years until they split in February 2025. After their relationship ended, she also became romantically involved with Wells.

She claims that Webber would often ‘lash out’ during his furious outbursts when they were together, but he refused to seek help after she urged him to go to therapy over his anger issues.

They went their separate ways in February of of 2025 because he wasn’t prepared to change his ways, Mattingly explained.

Webber’s ex also shared a video with TMZ which shows him screaming at her for not letting him use her car.

‘I asked you to get off my property!’ he is heard shouting repeatedly in the clip.

As a result, Mattingly says she ‘isn’t surprised’ by the murder allegations against Webber.

She also took aim at those sympathizing with her former partner in an emotional post on Facebook, writing: ‘Watching people say ‘this doesn’t sound like him’ or ‘he would never do that’ is honestly sickening. You didn’t live with him. I did.

‘For four years, I saw the side of him that nobody else wanted to believe existed. The anger. The control. The abuse. The kind of darkness you don’t just ‘mistake.’ The kind that makes you feel unsafe in your own home, in your own skin.

‘So no… I’m not shocked he’s being convicted of murder. Because I know what he’s capable of. I lived it. Every single day.’
