In a concerning repeat of events, a Queens e-bike store has once again been engulfed in flames due to a lithium-ion battery fire, the FDNY reported on Saturday.
The fire erupted on Friday evening, around 7:08 p.m., on the ground floor of King Electronic Hub, located near the intersection of Lefferts Blvd. and Liberty Ave. in South Richmond Hill. Approximately 60 firefighters and emergency medical personnel swiftly responded to the scene.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 7:41 p.m. Fire marshals are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
One individual sustained injuries and was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital for treatment.
This e-bike shop, part of a two-story mixed-use building, was the site of a similar incident last year. On January 6, 2024, at approximately 10:40 p.m., a lithium-ion battery began to emit smoke and sparks, eventually igniting while the store was closed, as captured by surveillance footage obtained by the FDNY.
During the 2024 incident, a resident living above the shop reported hearing three loud explosions and detecting the smell of smoke, according to the FDNY. Fortunately, there were no injuries during that event.
