A huge inferno has ravaged two takeaway shops in Mornington, Victoria, sparking panic from witnesses and sending flames high into the air.

The Red Rooster and a neighbouring kebab shop collapsed under the intensity of the fire.

“It felt like you were nearly sitting on a fire, it was like real hot,” one witness said.

It’s believed the fire started in the front of Mornington Star Kebabs.

Yildiz Akdogan has owned the business for four years.

He said there were flames everywhere within five minutes.

“It’s my baby, it’s my baby,” he said.

Crews got there quickly from the fire station just across the road.

But it was tough for them to bring the blaze under control, with fire hydrants far away.

The Red Rooster eventually came crashing down.
