Rebecca Grossman, a convicted child killer, admitted to her lover, Scott Erickson, that her return to her husband, Dr. Peter Grossman, was motivated by his financial support in covering hefty legal expenses related to her double murder defense. This revelation was reported by the Daily Mail.

Recent court documents also highlight that Grossman, 62, and the former World Series pitcher remained in contact through WhatsApp throughout her murder trial. Their communication continued even as a jury found her guilty, despite her legal team attributing blame to Erickson for the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two young brothers.

In their text exchanges, Grossman praised her husband Peter’s unwavering loyalty, noting that he would “always stand by my side,” despite her affair with Erickson.

These startling revelations emerge from a series of intimate WhatsApp conversations between the affluent socialite and Erickson, which have been submitted for an upcoming civil trial. In this case, the parents of the deceased brothers are pursuing legal action against both parties.

Erickson is seeking a court ruling to ensure these messages remain confidential during the upcoming civil trial, where both he and Grossman face accusations of engaging in a high-speed race that preceded the fatal crash.

Grossman and Erickson, 57, are named as defendants in the wrongful death lawsuit initiated by Nancy and Karim Iskander. The lawsuit follows the tragic incident where Grossman’s speeding white Mercedes struck and killed Mark, 11, and eight-year-old Jacob at a Los Angeles pedestrian crossing in September 2020.

On February 23, 2024, she was sentenced to 15 years to life in in prison after a jury found her guilty of two counts each of second-degree murder and vehicular manslaughter, plus one of hit-and-run.

The defense strategy by Grossman’s criminal trial attorneys was to blame the accident on Erickson who was allegedly racing her in his black Mercedes after the two had earlier cuddled over cocktails.

But the former Minnesota Twins star was only charged with misdemeanor reckless driving. And his case was resolved in February 2022 with a judge giving him a slap on the wrist, ordering him to make a public service announcement for high school students about the importance of safe driving.

Scott Erickson won a World Series ring with the Minnesota Twins and played for five other Major League teams in a 17-year career

Erickson is trying to block the jury from seeing WhatsApp texts that reveal why Grossman returned to her husband – even as she told Erickson she was in love with him

Now facing a wrongful death civil trial that’s scheduled to start in April, Erickson has filed a motion asking Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Huey Cotton to ban the jury from reading the WhatsApp messages between him and Grossman, many of which are affectionate and very personal references to their love affair which started when she was separated from her husband, acclaimed plastic surgeon, Dr Peter Grossman.

Erickson claims the text exchanges are ‘overwhelmingly irrelevant’ and ‘highly prejudicial’.

The Iskanders’ attorneys have countered, urging the judge to let the jury see them, saying they are ‘directly relevant because the contain certain admissions and factual statements about the fatal collision’.

The contested, six-page tranche of WhatsApp texts – uncovered by the Daily Mail – began on October 24, 2020, less than a month after the crash that took the lives of the Iskander boys with Erickson writing, ‘There’s my girl.’

Grossman, who used her maiden name, Rebecca Gray, in the texts, replied: ‘I put my broken heart with a band aid in that little box, so I want you to keep it next to your bedside wherever you are, ok?’

After numerous ‘I love you’s’ – including one on February 13, 2021, wishing him ‘Happy Valentines’ – on March 6 that year, at 2.49am, she launched into a long and revealing text about why she decided to go back to her husband, even though she was in love with Erickson.

‘My sweet, dear Scott,’ she wrote. ‘I find it difficult to have this conversation with you over the phone or in person because I’m so enamored with you. I love being with you and you make me so happy.

‘Peter and I have been talking very honestly with each other and although we know that we will always love each other, we don’t know what the future holds.

‘Peter has stepped up so powerfully and will always stand by my side. He is having to spend an enormous amount money on my legal defense and will spend as much as it takes to eventually get a fair and just verdict.

‘He is a best friend and his immense loyalty to me deserves all of my attention. I don’t know if we will ever be intimate again but right now his dedication to helping me fight this legal battle and his love for this family is truly special.’

Of her husband’s dedication to her, she added: ‘This has aged him and I know that as strong as he is trying to be that he has enormous fears. He is trying to buy me the escape house in Texas just because he thinks it will help lift my spirits.

‘I really don’t know what the future holds, Scott. I am scared and you have been a hero to me during the darkest time of my life.

‘We have such a special relationship and I can never say no to you because you are always so f***ing adorable, intelligent and make me laugh so much.

‘And although this is a beautiful relationship I don’t feel that I would be a very good person if I didn’t show my gratitude and loyalty toward Peter….at least until the end of the year…..

‘Bottom line, we need to see how this is going to play out and once this is past us then we can explore where we all are at that time. You must know how much I love and care about you Scott. You need to set me free right now.’

Four days later, on March 10, 2021, Grossman texted Erickson, ‘Every time you see me… you make me feel like a sex-craved kid.’

Karim and Nancy Iskander have countered Erickson's motion to suppress the texts, saying they are 'directly relevant' because they include admissions and factual statements about the fatal collision

During the rest of 2021, the lovers kept writing endearments to each other. ‘I love you madly,’ she said.

‘Luv you baby’…..’You have the voice of an angel and I love you more than anything,’ Erickson told her.

The WhatsApp texts cited in the new court documents jump to late 2023, a month before Grossman’s murder trial starts, when there’s a cooling in her relationship with Erickson, who was conspicuous by his absence during the six weeks of the trial.

On December 19, 2023, Grossman asked him to speak to her attorneys about what happened the night of the death crash, ‘and if they cannot speak to you, then they will demand that my daughter tell the truth of every detail of that night.

Grossman’s daughter Alexis went on to testify at the trial that she saw Erickson ‘hiding in the bushes’ after the crash and later threatened her.

‘This will raise eyebrows and hit the press and will look badly for you,’ wrote Grossman. ‘I don’t want this to happen but they need to hear from you what happened or they can only suspect that you are not an honest person.’

Erickson responded, ‘Not sure what your daughter could say that would make me look bad….. Not sure why you would try to threaten me.’

When Grossman’s murder trial began in mid January 2024, the two continued to bicker on WhatsApp. On February 4 she texted him, ‘Praying that the truth comes out.’

Their intimate texting continued throughout the trial, but ultimately came to an end when her son Nick (left) intervened and told Erickson to leave their family alone

Erickson, furious that her lawyers were blaming him for causing the crash, responded: ‘Telling some crazy lies was a strange way to get to the truth… you’re personally accusing me of hitting kids.’

His tone softened on February 22, 2024, the day before the jury was due to deliver its verdict, telling Grossman: ‘Good luck My Lady. Praying for the Best!’

The response from Grossman’s phone the next day, just as the jury pronounced her guilty of all charges was ‘Are you kidding?’

And after the verdict, Erickson texted: ‘What happened?’ and ‘Unbelievable.’

Several hours later that night, when Erickson texted: ‘Can u talk’ the response came from Grossman’s teenage son Nick who said: ‘Scott… please leave our family alone.’

Nick clearly had his mother’s phone after she was taken into custody following the guilty verdicts.

Erickson gave two terse replies: ‘Not my fault’ and ‘Wasn’t there.’ But in the last WhatsApp in the new court papers, he told Nick: ‘If your mom has phone privileges, please tell her to call me if there’s any way I can help in the re-trial.’

Grossman has appealed her guilty convictions, her lawyers claiming that the judge at her murder trial failed to instruct the jury properly.

This week, a three-judge panel of California’s Second Appellate District heard oral arguments from her attorneys and prosecutors and will issue a ruling later this year on whether to uphold the jury’s verdict.
