Officials say the car took off when deputies attempted to pull it over on East 9th Street. It later crashed into another vehicle while trying to exit the freeway.
CLEVELAND — A portion of Eddy Road is closed near the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway following a fiery crash late Friday night, and Cuyahoga County officials say one of the vehicles involved was attempting to flee sheriff’s deputies before the wreck.
According to county spokesperson Jennifer Ciaccia, deputies attempted to pull the car over on East 9th Street in Cleveland when the vehicle sped off around 9:45 p.m. After getting on Interstate 90, the car drove for several miles and attempted to exit the highway at Eddy Road, but collided with another vehicle while doing so.
The Cleveland Division of Fire confirms its crews extinguished flames from two vehicles just before 10 p.m. — one at the beginning of the on-ramp from Eddy Road to I-90 east and another at the base of the wall just east of Eddy and south of the ramp. Firefighters have since left the area, but Eddy and the ramps remain closed, although traffic on the Shoreway is moving as normal.
Cuyahoga County authorities have not confirmed if the suspect vehicle was being pursued by deputies at the time of the wreck. Details regarding possible injuries have also not been released.
