A resident of Taylorville, Illinois, has been sentenced to six years in prison following a Christmas Day incident in which he collided with a stationary vehicle and attempted to evade law enforcement.
According to earlier reports by WCIA, on December 25, 2024, officers from the Taylorville Police Department sought to pull over a driver. However, the driver chose to flee, ultimately losing control and crashing into a street sign and a parked car during the chase.
After the crash, the man attempted to escape on foot, leaving behind a shoe at the scene. Police soon apprehended the individual, who was found wearing only one shoe, and identified him as 35-year-old Aaron Steele.
Initially, Steele faced several charges, including fleeing from police, illegal possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and armed violence. He was granted pretrial release by the Illinois Department of Corrections.
