A planned increase in federal enforcement in San Francisco has been temporarily shelved by President Donald Trump, who is granting Mayor Daniel Lurie a chance to tackle the city’s crime challenges, according to a statement from the White House.

In a social media post on Thursday, Mayor Lurie shared that President Trump had informed him during a late-night phone call on Wednesday of the decision to pause the deployment of federal officers and agents, who were originally scheduled to arrive on Thursday.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that over 100 Customs and Border Protection agents were set to be deployed to San Francisco. However, sources have indicated that no additional Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers will be dispatched to the city at this time.
