Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. celebrated their daughter Charlotte’s sweet 16 with a traditional birthday present of a car.

The longtime Hollywood couple have been married since 2002 and in addition to their daughter they share a 13-year-old son called Rocky.

Their two children’s birthdays are just one day apart – while Charlotte hit her `new milestone age on Friday, Rocky became a teenager on Saturday.

At the beginning of their holiday weekend, Sarah took to Instagram to gush over her daughter and offer a sneak peek of the festivities.

Some of her pictures showed a shiny Jeep Rubicon parked in their driveway, with a large red bow on the hood indicating it was Charlotte’s gift.

A 2025 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has a starting price of $47,550 for a two-door and $52,050 for a four-door, the carmaker’s official website reveals.

In her post, Sarah wrote: ‘Sixteen years ago today, you made me a mother. There’s a saying… a daughter is just a little girl who eventually becomes your best friend.’

The former Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress added, ‘Charlotte, that’s exactly who you are and even more. You are powerful, you inspire me, you are compassionate, you are humorous (almost as funny as I am), and above all, you are unique, in the best way.’

Wrapping up her message, she gushed: ‘Im so lucky to call you my best friend. And I’m equally excited to finally be your passenger PRINZEss.’

Last year Sarah candidly discussed the ‘change in mindset’ that she experienced when she entered the motherhood stage of her life, via SheKnows.

She also shared, ‘Even though I was married for a decade before Rocky was born, it’s different because my husband was an adult who could handle himself.’

‘But suddenly, your mind is constantly occupied, worrying about your kids every day and night in a wonderfully intense but demanding way.’

She added: ‘That’s what’s funny about the challenges of being a parent … it always seems like the hardest part. And then you get to the next part, and you’re like: “Oh, this is harder.” I don’t think it ever changes.’

Parenthood is particularly complicated now, given the new leaps and bounds in technology that have changed the environment from when her parents raised her.

Over the past 23 years, Sarah and Freddie have emerged as a rare example of a lasting celebrity marriage – and earlier this year she shared their secret: ‘Separate bathrooms’ 

Sarah observed that she and Freddie ‘have no roadmap,’ in the sense: ‘There are certain things where we can ask people that have been through it: “How did you handle this when I was a kid?” But this is a new frontier. And so we’re really sort of learning as we go, and I think that’s always incredibly challenging.’

‘Separate bathrooms,’ the Cruel Intentions star told Jenna Bush Hager on an episode of Today with Jenna and Friends this April. ‘It’s really that simple.’

Sarah previous extolled the virtues of having a different bathroom from Freddie in 2017, on an episode of Harry Connick Jr’s short-lived talk-show Harry.

‘I feel like there are certain things that should just be kept your own and they never need to know,’ Sarah explained to the crooner. 

‘Also, maybe, possibly, a separate shopping credit card; or if you are a guy, maybe a separate gaming card so I don’t have to see how much video games cost.’
