The warning for the southern part of Richland County is in place through 11:15 a.m.
CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the southern portion of Richland County until 11:15 a.m.
According to the NWS, at 10:40 a.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Cardington, or near Mount Gilead, moving northeast at 65 mph.
The storm may produce quarter size hail and minor damage to vehicles is possible.
The NWS says the impacted communities include Mansfield, Mount Gilead, Ontario, Lexington, Cardington, Bellville, Lucas, Edison, Fulton, and Shauck.
Today’s storm warning comes amid a wild day temperature-wise in Northeast Ohio. As 3News Senior Meteorologist Matt Wintz put it, “we have feels like temps in the 20s this morning and we’ll end up with temps pushing 70 with humidity this afternoon.”
“Our warm up won’t happen until a warm front surges through northern Ohio during the midday and early afternoon hours. This front will pass with some storms. These storms could contain some hail and produce frequent lightning around lunchtime before we clear back out later today,” Wintz added.
The 3News Weather Team is also keeping an eye on a line of storms approaching northern Ohio that ware expected to arrive later tonight. “Make sure you have a way to get warnings when you’re asleep if anything gets gnarly. Damaging winds are the primary risk as this line begins to weaken as it moves in — it could still pack a punch, especially in our western counties,” Wintz advised.
A Flood Watch has also been issued for most of Northeast Ohio from 8 p.m. Wednesday until 8 a.m. Sunday as the National Weather Service in Cleveland says “several rounds of showers and storms will impact the region” with heavy rainfall.
“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” according to the NWS.
