Huddersfield have appointed Darren Moore as their new manager following the departure of Neil Warnock.

Warnock took charge of his last match for the Terriers in Wednesday night’s 2-2 home draw with Stoke and the Sky Bet Championship club have wasted little time in naming Moore as his replacement.

A statement on the club’s official website read: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Darren Moore to Huddersfield as our new manager.

‘He joins Town on the back of a successful promotion campaign with Sheffield Wednesday last season, adding to his managerial experience in the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship with West Brom and successful time in charge of Doncaster.’

Warnock, 74, admitted earlier this week that the club’s decision to part company with him had come as a surprise.

He had stepped out of retirement to return for his second spell as Terriers boss in February and, after rescuing them from relegation last season, he and assistant Ronnie Jepson signed new one-year contracts.

Edwards said ‘few management duos could have kept us in the Championship’ when Warnock announced his pending departure at the start of this week and that the club wanted to bring in a new manager ‘from a position of strength’.

Former Derby and West Brom defender Moore guided Wednesday back to the Championship via their play-off final win against Barnsley in May.

But the former Doncaster boss left Hillsborough by mutual consent the following month after failing to agree a new contract with Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri.

Moore began his managerial career at West Brom in 2018, initially as caretaker after Alan Pardew’s dismissal, and also spent two years in charge at Doncaster.
