Jamie Vardy’s villa in Italy became the target of a burglary, with thieves making off with £80,000 worth of valuables.

The ex-England forward, who joined Cremonese over the summer, resides in a villa overlooking the stunning Lake Garda nestled in the Italian Alps.

While Vardy was in Rome for a match where his team faced a 3-1 loss on Sunday, his home, shared with his wife Rebekah, was broken into by a trio of burglars.

Entering through a window, the intruders managed to steal watches, jewelry, cash, and other high-value items.

A police insider revealed to the Daily Mail, “We suspect the criminals had been monitoring him and his family, striking when he was away in Rome.”

Among the stolen items was a prestigious Patek Philippe watch, adding to the list of watches, jewelry, and cash taken by the burglars.

Captain Giacomo Tessarolo, of the local carabinieri police in Salo, told the Daily Mail: ‘We have CCTV which shows one individuals entering the house through a window that was left open.

‘They were on the premises for several minutes before escaping with the watch and several other high value items. There was woman inside, not his wife but the baby sitter.

‘The theft was discovered when some of Vardy’s friends returned to the house and found items on the floor and it had evidently been broken into.’

Vardy moved to Salo – which is round 50 miles from Cremona where he plays – in the summer and bought a £2 million villa and has had a tough time breaking into the squad but is now a regularly in the side.

The villa has a beautiful view of the lake and Vardy and his wife have been spotted out and around in the town enjoying dinner and where they are even said to have picked up the language.

He has played eight times and scored twice for his side who are lying midtable and in Sunday’s match he wore a shirt with ‘Becky’ on the back to highlight a domestic violence campaign.

Vardy is the latest in a long line of footballers to have their home broken into by burglars with other high profile names including Raheem Sterling and Alexander Isak.

Vardy came on a free transfer from Leicester where had had played for 13 seasons and signed on a 12 month contract with Serie A side.

The striker scored 183 goals in 440 appearances for Leicester City and since being in Italy has played eight times and scored twice, picking up two yellow cards and his first goal was last month against Atalanta.

Cremona is famous for its violin making and Vardy gave his first interview to the club’s media channel from an auditorium packed with 500 year old instruments.

He said: ‘What an incredible place this – there are violins here that are from the 15th and 16th century – they have to be played once a week to keep them in tune and they look brand new, I couldn’t get my mind around it.

He added: ‘It’s been absolutely brilliant. I was told it was quite a quiet city which I’ll be honest for the past few days its not been that quiet.

‘But it has been really enjoyable meeting the fans. Whether I’ve gone out for dinner or lunch, getting to explore, going to the top of the tower was unbelievable with the panoramic views but the football side, language is difficult at the moment but the one thing that’s always constant is football is its own language.

‘You can always talk through football so being able to train with the lads and being made to feel welcome, its been a great start and definitely a great first week.’

Then speaking of his wife and family Vardy added: ‘They are everything, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do if I didn’t have the support of all them. we know its going to be different and difficult to start with.

‘It’s a challenge we are already for and it’s really exciting. They can learn a new language and it’s something we are looking forward to.’
