Wycombe’s David Wheeler was shown one of the fastest red cards in history when he was sent off in the 4-2 defeat by Barnsley — after just ten seconds!

Wheeler had only just come off the bench for the League One match at Adams Park when he lashed out at Corey O’Keefe near the touchline with his first challenge.

O’Keefe went down holding his ankle and referee Dean Whitestone raced over to show Wheeler a straight red.

‘His reaction wasn’t right,’ said the Wycombe boss. ‘He was sent off and rightly so I’m not complaining about that.’

Bloomfield did, however, accuse O’Keefe of provoking his red-faced player, saying: ‘Dave is off the pitch to let the ball go over his head as it’s out of play, and a left elbow goes to his jaw.

‘I’ve seen the provocation and his reaction isn’t right.’

If Wheeler’s expulsion after ten seconds is confirmed then it would earn him a place in the record books.

The previous quickest red card in English football was Sheffield Wednesday keeper Kevin Pressman, who was sent off after just 13 seconds playing against Wolves in 2000.
