TAMPA, Fla. – A bereaved mother who lost her 12-year-old daughter on August 17, 2021, has filed a lawsuit against Tampa-based Integrity Funeral Services.
The funeral home is accused of live-streaming the traditional, open-casket memorial service of Kianna Syi’ann Yvonne Revear on Facebook against the expressed will of her mother, Kendra Shantae Revear, 40. The funeral was held at New Testament Worship Center in Tampa.
The lawsuit – filed June 1st – states, “…Plaintiff expressly prohibited the funeral home from taking pictures or recording the funeral…On September 11, 2021, the day of the memorial, the funeral home live-streamed the funeral services on Facebook, which included displaying the deceased’s body in an open casket for thousands of followers.”
Count I of the suit contends “Tortious Interference with and Mishandling of Remains” and “Tortious Interference with Rights Involving Remains.”
Count II contends “Intentional and/or Reckless Infliction of Emotional Distress.”
Kianna’s obituary tells the story of a young comedian and dancer on TikTok whose nickname was “Betty Boop.” Her father is Antonio Bernard Atherly.
Tyler R. Kobylinski of Morgan and Morgan law firm in Tampa is the Plaintiff’s attorney. Morgan and Morgan Founder, John Morgan and Kobylinski had this to say about this case:
“We will fight to hold everyone accountable for this disgrace accountable – and to make sure no other family has to go through something like this.”
