TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Highway Patrol has reported that a woman faces attempted murder charges after allegedly pursuing a man on foot with her pickup truck and hitting him.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday on the Morris Bridge Road exit of Interstate 75.

An affidavit from FHP says one witness watched the events unfold and detained the suspect himself before law enforcement arrived.

The incident began when the man noticed two cars parked on the shoulder of an exit ramp: a gray Dodge Challenger and a white Ford F250 pickup truck. A man stood by the Challenger, while 20-year-old Armani Bellamy was behind the wheel of the pickup.

Witnesses described Bellamy as reversing aggressively towards the Challenger, hitting its front before maneuvering around and heading toward the man, who signaled her to halt. Instead, she struck the Challenger once more and used her truck “as a weapon” to run over the victim.

The witness told FHP the man attempted to flee up the embankment toward the tree line, but Bellamy continued to chase him in the truck. He lost sight of Bellamy and the victim and approached the area where the truck had stopped. The man said he saw that Bellamy had exited the truck and was trying to get a ride in an attempt to flee the scene, the affidavit said.

The victim was partially stuck under the pickup, where a bystander had stopped to render medical aid. The witness detained Bellamy until law enforcement arrived, at which point she was transported for a minor injury and later arrested.

It was later discovered that the suspect was also driving a stolen vehicle that was marked with Strong Roofing branding.

The affidavit said the victim was transported to a separate hospital, with injuries so severe that he was unable to speak to police.

Bellamy has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, criminal mischief, first-degree attempted murder and grand theft of a motor vehicle.
