CLEVELAND — A student was arrested after being found with a weapon at John Marshall School in Cleveland on Monday, according to school officials.
In a statement, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District confirmed that the incident occurred in the school’s checkpoint area, where a safety and security officer immediately confiscated the weapon.
Officials say the student was then taken into custody by the Cleveland Division of Police.
In addition, no students or staff were harmed during the incident.

I am writing to inform you that an incident involving a student with a weapon occurred today in the checkpoint area of John Marshall School. One of our Safety and Security Officers immediately confiscated the weapon, and the student has been arrested by Cleveland Police. While the situation is concerning, please know that I am glad to report that no student or staff were harmed. The safety and well-being of our school community remain our top priority as we work to access and monitor the situation. Our District’s Safety and Security team is actively supporting us in addressing this issue and we are working with the Cleveland Police Department (CPD). We understand that this news may be unsettling. However, it is important to note that we take these matters very seriously. We will continue to work closely with CPD, our District partners, staff, and families to address any concerns and foster a community where everyone feels safe and valued.
