The NSW crisis cabinet is due to convene later this morning, where it is expected to be announced that the government will request financial modelling for a lockdown that lasts until mid-September.
Of the locally acquired cases, 87 are linked to a known case or cluster and the source of infection for 54 cases is under investigation.
“If anybody thinks this is a disease just affecting older people, please think again,” she said.
NSW Health’s Jeremy McAnulty said a teenager was one of 43 people in intensive care.
Another seven were in their 20s, three were in their 30s, 14 in their 50s, 12 in their 60s and six in their 70s.
More than 5,500 reports have been made to police, so far, from concerned members of the public willing to dob in people they know.
“As of this morning 63 individuals have been charged for offences yesterday, 35 have been arrested and 16 are before the courts today,” Mr Elliott said yesterday.
