Fears for missing woman after she mysteriously walked out of her home wearing pyjamas and vanished without a trace

  • Woman vanished in remote Tasmania after walking out of her home late at night
  • She disappeared in her pyjamas sparking an overnight police search of the town
  • Family and friends are gravely concerned for her wellbeing after a frigid night
  • The woman has still not been seen, police are urging for public assistance

A woman has gone missing after wandering out of her home late at night wearing pyjamas, with police and family appealing for help to find her.

Tanaha Direen, 31, left her home on foot in the remote Tasmanian village of Kempton, an hour’s drive from Hobart, at 9pm on Wednesday night.

Ms Direen hasn’t been seen since despite overnight search efforts covering the tiny village with family and locals fearing for her wellbeing.

Desperate family and police have described Ms Direen as slim, 175 cm tall with brown hair and pink ends, and say she may have also been wearing a black or white hooded jumper.

They have urged motorists along the Midland Highway and those in the area to look out for the woman.

Overnight, police used thermal imaging drones to search the public areas of Kempton overnight to no avail.

The small town has a population of around 400 and is situated in the lower pastural area of Tasmania, around 40km north-west of Hobart.

Locals have thanked the Kempton police for their quick response and overnight efforts but have also expressed their fears for the woman.

‘Went missing so late in the evening, I’m very surprised that the police acted so fast and used their technology too! Its a very small town, shocking they didn’t find her,’ one local wrote online.

‘Thinking of all her family, hope she is found safe & home with her loved ones,’ said another concerned local on Facebook.

‘I hope you are okay Tanaha, thinking of you and your family and hoping you are found safe beautiful,’ wrote a friend.

Kempton village locals are also concerned about the frigid overnight temperatures in the area.

‘I hope she’s found, it was a very cold night!’

‘Hope she is found safe, it was a cold one at Kempton last night.’

Temperatures dropped as low as two degrees overnight in the area.

As the town is situated between open pastures and hills on all sides, some speculated she couldn’t have gone far solely on foot.

A local suggested using traffic surveillance to check the vehicles travelling in and out of the township for Tanaha. The town is beside the Midland Highway and otherwise only has one other paved road leading out of the town to the south-west.

Family member Monique Direen has also appealed for locals to call the police, still currently searching for Tanaha, if they see her and for her loved one to return home.

‘Please can everyone one please keep their eyes out for Nay. If you see her please stay with her and call the police. Nay if you see this we love you and we want you home,’ she wrote.
