CHICAGO (WGN) After more than two months of searching, a legally blind man in Chicago is finally being reunited with his emotional support dog.

Angel Santiago reports that his 14-year-old tan and white dachshund, named Bam Bam, was taken from his backyard near Monticello and Fullerton Avenues in Logan Square on June 5.

Santiago, who is legally blind due to glaucoma, told police two unknown people entered through his gate and took the dog.

In the subsequent weeks, Santiago committed to walking up to seven miles daily, distributing flyers and calling out for Bam Bam in a desperate attempt to locate him.

A GoFundMe campaign was launched, raising close to $20,000 to fund the search efforts. The money was used for reward offers, hiring pet detectives, creating flyers, and organizing volunteer teams to search the area.

Now, Santiago’s persistence is paying off.

Bam Bam has been located and is currently at the 16th Police District, where Santiago was headed to bring him home.

Police have not released details on how Bam Bam was found or whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the theft.
