Indiana Woman Shoots Driver Dead After He Honks at Her to Move On at Traffic Light

An Indiana woman faces murder charges following an alleged act of road rage that resulted in the fatal shooting of a man who honked at her vehicle for not proceeding at a green light.

According to court documents, 23-year-old Deborah Benefiel became enraged when Kentrell Settles, aged 21, sounded his horn and overtook her car. In response, she reportedly pursued Settles before firing a shot through his rear window on Friday afternoon, as detailed by WISH.

Authorities in Indianapolis responded to the scene where Settles was discovered bleeding in the driver’s seat. He was transported to a medical facility but succumbed to his injuries.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears expressed his disbelief over the incident, stating to WXIN, “The victim in this case honks his horn and ends up losing his life. It’s beyond senseless.”

Police utilized license plate tracking technology to locate Benefiel’s SUV. She was apprehended mere hours after the shooting and now faces charges of murder and criminal recklessness.

Upon her arrest, Benefiel chose not to cooperate with investigators. She was identified as the shooter by Settles’ girlfriend, who was present in the car during the incident.

Benefiel is being held without bond.
