Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist monk, died peacefully in his native country of Vietnam on January 22, 2022.

How Thich Nhat Hanh Passed Away?

Many publications have announced the passing of Thich Nhat Hanh’s death. He articulated and disseminate the core Buddhist teachings of mindfulness, kindness, and compassion to a broad global audience.

In 2014, Nhat had a stroke at Plum Village, the monastery and retreat center in southwest France he founded in 1982 which, was also his home base. He was unable to speak after the stroke.

In October 2018, he stunned his disciples by informing them that he would like to return home to Vietnam to pass his final days at the Tu Hieu root temple in Hue, where he became a monk in 1942 at the age of 16.

He is the founder of the largest monastic order in the West. He also refrains from consuming animal products, as a means of nonviolence towards animals. He died at the age of 95.

So far, there is no information on how he died. It might be due to his old age. But how he lived does matter, and we hope almighty will guide his soul to the peaceful heaven.

Thich Nhat Hanh seemed unmarried. He was born on 11 October 1926 into a large family in the ancient imperial capital of Hue in Central Vietnam. He was born Nguyen Xuan Bao.

The detail of his parents and siblings are not found. Though there is no mention of his family, and despite being married, his disciples are many in numbers that he might not miss family.

His followers were his extended family, and digging his Facebook page, he seemed so much contented in his teachings and his followers. This is why many people mourn his passing.
