The three men were arrested for racing on highways, and the vehicles involved, two Challengers and a Corvette, were impounded.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Three men traveling together from Georgia were arrested early Saturday morning after Florida Highway Patrol troopers caught them in an apparent street race on I-4 in Hillsborough County.
The arrest happened around 12:45 a.m., the agency said in a news release. Troopers reportedly spotted a Corvette traveling west on I-4 at 97 mph.
Soon after, two Challengers were seen traveling with the Corvette, FHP said. Near Milespost 22, all three cars slowed to a speed of 80 mph before they all “accelerated rapidly to speeds in excess of 120 mph in an apparent street race.”
“The trio worked aggressively through traffic, making multiple lane changes and passing on the shoulder,” troopers stated in the release.
After troopers stopped the trio, they learned that they had been travelling together from Georgia and placed them under arrest. The men, aged 39, 37 and 34, were arrested for racing on highways, while the two Challengers and Corvette were impounded for 30 days per statute, according to FHP.
