A bear was found indulging in its craving for sweets behind the counter of an ice cream shop in a California resort town on Lake Tahoe last week, according to authorities.

Early in the morning on August 17, deputies arrived at an ice cream store at Camp Richardson in South Lake Tahoe and discovered a large bear there, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office mentioned in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

“The deputies could barely believe their eyes as they saw a large bear behind the counter of the shop,” the sheriff’s office wrote in the post.

Photographs captured the bear, which the sheriff’s office affectionately named Fuzzy, standing behind the counter of the parlor as if it were an employee ready to greet the deputies who responded to the scene.

“With some encouragement, the bear ultimately left, but only after showing interest in the strawberry ice cream,” authorities said.

The ice cream shop sustained little damage during the bear’s ice cream raid, and there was “barely any cleanup,” the sheriff’s office said.

Camp Richardson is a 128-acre resort in South Lake Tahoe, about 66 miles south of Reno, Nevada.
