A tragic incident occurred near the Metra tracks in the northern suburbs last week, where a man’s death appears to have resulted from either falling or attempting to step off a moving train, according to officials.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 30-year-old Allen Chiquini, who suffered fatal blunt-force head injuries around 5:30 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of Winchester and Ellis in Libertyville.

“Our investigation, supported by video evidence, reveals that Mr. Chiquini mistakenly boarded a northbound train, thinking it was heading south. Unable to open the passenger doors, he exited the train through the rear by climbing over a safety barrier,” the coroner’s report stated. “After leaving the train, it appears he either fell or attempted to step off while it was still in motion, leading to his fatal injuries.”
On the day of the incident, Metra officials clarified that Mr. Chiquini was not struck by the train.
Initial reports from the coroner’s office suggested injuries typical of a train strike; however, it has been confirmed that he was not hit by a train.
The coroner also mentioned that toxicology tests are still being conducted.
Further information was not immediately available. Metra police are investigating.
