A man from Long Island is facing attempted murder charges following an incident where he allegedly shot a crossbow bolt at his sister, slightly injuring her face.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, officers responded to a residence in Lawrence shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, they discovered a 28-year-old woman with a cut on the right side of her face. She was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.

Investigators identified the woman’s 21-year-old brother, Samy Sedhom, as the shooter and subsequently arrested him.

The sister reported to authorities that she had just come back from the gym and parked in the home’s attached garage, as per WABC. She noticed Sedhom in his parked vehicle across the street. Both siblings exited their cars, and as she was about to close the garage door, she suddenly felt a sharp pain on her face and noticed she was bleeding, prompting her to alert the police.

Upon investigation, officers found a crossbow bolt embedded in the back wall of the garage. A search of Sedhom’s room yielded a crossbow box, a Katana sword, and a MacBook, all of which were confiscated.

During his arraignment on Sunday, prosecutors revealed that Sedhom confessed to plotting his sister’s murder since Christmas. A judge has ordered Sedhom to remain in custody without bail and prohibited him from contacting his sister.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly the bolt split the victim’s ear  in half and that if it had struck just a couple of inches over, “we would be talking about a homicide,” News 12 said.

Donnelly described the motive as a “brother-sister rivalry,” saying the pair had been fighting over the temperature inside the house.

“She liked to keep it cooler, he wanted it warmer,” she said.

Sedhom is charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and stalking. He is due back in court on Wednesday.
