KYIV – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that the forthcoming peace negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. This announcement was made on Sunday, signaling another attempt to resolve the ongoing conflict.

The anticipated discussions, which also include U.S. involvement, are set to take place in Abu Dhabi. This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to negotiate an end to Russia’s extensive military actions against Ukraine.

Zelenskyy conveyed via Telegram, “Our negotiating team has just reported back. The next round of trilateral meetings is confirmed for February 4th and 5th in Abu Dhabi. Ukraine is prepared for meaningful dialogue and is committed to achieving a resolution that signifies a real and honorable end to the hostilities.”

As of now, there has been no official response from U.S. or Russian representatives regarding the upcoming talks.

On Saturday, Kirill Dmitriev, a top Russian envoy, mentioned having a “constructive meeting with the U.S. peacemaking delegation” in Florida, indicating ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Details surrounding the talks in Abu Dhabi remain scarce. These discussions are part of a year-long initiative led by the Trump administration, aiming to broker a peace agreement and conclude nearly four years of intense conflict.

While Ukrainian and Russian officials have agreed in principle with Washington’s calls for a compromise, Moscow and Kyiv differ deeply over what an agreement should look like.

A central issue is whether Russia should keep or withdraw from areas of Ukraine its forces have occupied, especially Ukraine’s eastern industrial heartland called the Donbas, and whether it should get land there that it hasn’t yet captured.
