Cheryl Hines reveals RFK Jr's strange sauerkraut habit

Actress Cheryl Hines recently shared an interesting tidbit about her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who serves as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. According to Hines, Kennedy has embarked on a unique diet that sometimes makes its presence known.

During an appearance on Katie Miller’s podcast, Hines revealed that Kennedy’s current dietary regimen consists solely of meat and fermented vegetables. “Every morning at 6:30, he’s up cooking a steak and pairing it with sauerkraut,” Hines, known for her role on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” explained while sipping her latte, hinting at her less-than-enthusiastic response to the aroma.

Curious about how Kennedy manages his unusual diet when dining out, Miller inquired about his dining habits. Hines candidly responded, “I’m not sure if he would want me to share this, but I’ll say it anyway—he’s so committed to this diet that he actually takes his own sauerkraut to restaurants.”

Hines added that she often finds herself getting all dressed up for a night out with Kennedy, demonstrating her support and willingness to accommodate his unique dining choices.

‘I don’t know if he wants me saying this either, but who cares,’ Hines said, before adding, ‘He’s so dedicated to this diet that he’s eating that he will bring his own sauerkraut to a restaurant.’

The actress said she’ll get dressed up and get in the car with RFK Jr. for a night out on the town.

‘I’ll have my little clutch, one of my good bags that I only take out every once in a while, because I want to keep them nice and he’ll hand me a bag of sauerkraut and say, “Can you put this in your bag?”‘ Hines said.

Hines has refused if she’s carrying a nice purse.

‘I’m going to give this bag to one of my daughters when I die, this is not a sauerkraut bag,’ Hines said she has told her husband.

‘If you tell me ahead of time, I can bring a sauerkraut bag,’ she said. ‘So when I walk in, people say, “eww, what’s that smell?” Don’t worry about it, it’s my husband’s dinner.’

Hines is currently doing the rounds to sell copies of her forthcoming memoir, Unscripted, which will be released on November 11.

Hines, a longtime Democrat, has been embraced by conservative podcasters, appearing recently on the podcast of Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late Republican Senator John McCain.

Her episode on Miller’s podcast will be released in full on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on YouTube, Spotify, Apple and Rumble.

Hines had a tense back-and-forth when appearing on The View earlier this month with liberal Sunny Hostin.

‘But the problem, respectfully, is that your husband is the least qualified Department of Health and Human Services head that we’ve had in history,’ Hostin said at one point.

Hostin also blasted RFK Jr. for linking autism with circumcision.

‘May I finish?’ Hines shot back.

Hines talked positively to McCain about being embraced by members of both the MAHA – Make America Healthy Again – and MAGA movements now that she’s a Cabinet spouse.

Her husband launched MAHA when he joined forces with then-candidate Donald Trump in August 2024 after ending his independent presidential bid.

‘I like the people. I like the people that I’m around,’ Hines said.

‘They’ve been so kind. I mean – I’ve been so – I’m really grateful that people have been kind to me. Republicans have been really nice to me,’ she told McCain.
