A man has been taken into custody and is facing charges of human smuggling after authorities discovered 17 undocumented migrants tightly packed in an RV and a nearby sedan amid the scorching Arizona heat on Wednesday.

Most of these migrants, all hailing from Mexico, were tightly squeezed into the small RV parked on a property in Nogales, enduring rising temperatures as the sunlight beat down, stated Sean L. McGoffin, the chief patrol agent of the Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector.

The individuals inside the RV, including a child, were cramped with minimal ventilation and lacked access to running water, according to McGoffin. The others were found crammed into a compact sedan identified during a traffic stop.

Investigators are working to determine whether others were involved.

The operation was carried out by Nogales Border Patrol, Nogales Police and Homeland Security Investigations.

“No recreation happening in this vehicle, instead it was used by smugglers forcing people to hide out in inhumane conditions in sweltering heat,” McGoffin said.

“Although no one was injured, the situation shows the danger illegal aliens face in the hands of smugglers.”
