The shooting happened on Sunday at about 4:37 a.m. in the 5000-block of W. Maypole Avenue, Chicago police said.
Two 18-year-old men were allegedly in an argument with two people who were in a vehicle, police said.
The suspects started shooting, injuring both 18-year-olds.
Kaleb Williams was identified as one of the victims. He died at the hospital from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the medical examiner.
His family said the 18-year-old had plans to enlist in the military after finishing high school.
“This is overwhelming. I’m overwhelmed with so many emotions. I’m scared – I’m angry,” mother Nikita Campbell said.
William’s parents said the teen was out with friends when he was shot and killed.
“When I initially heard the news, I felt completely numb,” said grandfather Arthur Sutton. “It’s a parent’s worst nightmare to receive a late-night call with news that something terrible has occurred.”
The teen’s parents said he was waiting for a ride home when the shooting happened.

Williams was killed about three blocks from a mass shooting near La Crosse Avenue.
