JSO: 19-year-old arrested for attempted murder of five people at Arlington house party

A house party in Arlington turned violent, leading to a shooting that has left the Jacksonville community reeling. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the arrest of a suspect following a tense stand-off with their SWAT team.

In the predawn hours of Saturday, December 20, law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence on the 1200 block of Arlington Avenue. They arrived to find five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds at an Airbnb rental. Authorities quickly determined that the violence erupted from a heated argument among party attendees.

The investigation swiftly pointed to 19-year-old Kenshawn Prentice as the primary suspect. Police obtained an arrest warrant charging him with five counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a juvenile delinquent.

On the morning of Tuesday, December 23, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Task Force, tracked Prentice to a residence in Northwest Jacksonville. The situation escalated into a brief stand-off before Prentice ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges of gun violence and the unpredictable nature of such gatherings, prompting further community discussions on safety and security. The swift action by law enforcement has brought a measure of relief to the shaken neighborhood as they begin to process the aftermath of this tragic event.

According to JSO, a brief stand-off ensued before Prentice was taken into police custody.
