INDIANAPOLIS – Authorities are investigating after a shooting on Indy’s northwest side left at least two dead and five others injured on Sunday morning.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reported that just after 2 a.m., officers were called to the 6800 block of Shore Terrace due to a report of gunfire.

IMPD said a total of six males and one female were shot in the incident. The two individuals who were shot and killed were adult males, police said.

Upon arrival, officers discovered five individuals had been shot. Three victims were taken to a local hospital with critical injuries, while two adult males were declared dead at the scene, police confirmed.

IMPD mentioned another victim sought help at a nearby fire station, while a seventh individual reached an area hospital. Police stated they were in “serious, but stable condition.”

Investigators said the shooting happened outside in a parking lot. At least one person of interest was detained.

“This is truly heartbreaking. Our metro officers have been extremely busy, and we are doing all we can to hold those accountable,” said IMPD Sergeant William Young. “It is also our duty as adults to act responsibly and ensure our safety.”

FOX59/CBS4 spoke to a man who said he witnessed the shooting. He said everything was calm until it wasn’t.

“I woke up from a nap and initially saw a normal scene,” Perry Hilliard stated. “People were mingling, enjoying drinks and socializing, and then suddenly there was rapid, nonstop gunfire.”

He said he stayed in his car until the shooting stopped. When he got out, he saw families screaming, two people dead and another fighting for their life.

He said the last time he remembers something like this happening was years ago.

“Different bar, different name and maybe a different crowd. Ever since the change, it’s been quieter, less drama, less trouble. But yeah, this doesn’t happen often,” Hilliard said.

IMPD is asking anyone with information about this incident to call Detective Christopher Winter at the IMPD Homicide Office at (317)-327-3475 or e-mail the detective at Christopher.Winter@indy.gov, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)-262-8477
