US-19 Chaos: Two Separate Crashes in Tarpon Springs Leave Three Hospitalized

In Tarpon Springs, Florida, a series of incidents on US-19 led to the hospitalization of three individuals, as reported by the Tarpon Springs Police Department. These separate accidents occurred on Saturday, causing significant concern in the area.

The first incident unfolded around 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of US-19 and Lime Street, involving a collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist.

At the time of the accident, a 23-year-old woman was navigating Lime Street on an E-bike, utilizing a designated crosswalk. Tragically, she was hit by a Chrysler minivan operated by 65-year-old John Vargas.

The woman sustained severe injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby medical facility. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have stated that they do not suspect impairment as a contributing factor.

Witnesses to this incident are encouraged to reach out to Corporal Joshua Sparks at 727-938-2849 to provide any additional information.

Less than half a mile away from the first crash, law enforcement responded to another incident on US-19 North at around 11:45 p.m. and found a man suffering life-threatening injuries.

Police said the pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway from east to west, though they noted there are no crosswalks in the area. He was struck by a motorcycle while crossing and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The man has been identified, TSPD said, but his next of kin had not been notified as of 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old man, was also injured in the crash and transported to the hospital.

Police are still investigating the incident, and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Officer Nate Briseno at 727-938-2849.
