Woman, 73, pummeled by stranger in Harlem subway elevator in argument over attacker’s child

Authorities are on the hunt for a woman who allegedly assaulted a 73-year-old in a Harlem subway station elevator, following a complaint about the woman’s child touching the victim. The incident reportedly occurred after the victim confronted the mother about her daughter’s behavior, police revealed on Saturday.

To aid in identifying the suspect, the police have circulated a photo of the woman involved in the altercation, hoping the public might recognize her.

The altercation took place at around 5:30 p.m. on December 3, as the victim was using the elevator at the 125th Street station on Lexington Avenue. According to the victim, the situation escalated when the young girl began to touch her, leading to a dispute with the girl’s mother.

During the argument, the mother allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the face before fleeing the scene with her daughter.

The pair was last seen boarding a downtown-bound train on the 4/5/6 line, as reported by the police.

Although the victim sustained injuries, she declined medical treatment after contacting the authorities.

Cops recovered surveillance images of the woman at the MTA station and released the footage, asking the public for help in finding her.

The brazen beaten comes as police are fighting a slight uptick in assaults for the year. As of Dec. 21, detectives were investigating 2,900 assaults in the city, 87 more than this time last year, police said.

Anyone with information about the suspect or her location is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
