Aaron Civale gets his trade wish -- but ends up with MLB doormat

Aaron Civale should’ve been careful what he wished for.

The right-handed pitcher had his wish fulfilled of getting traded from the Brewers — with one harsh twist. He’s moving to the struggling White Sox.

The trade was reported by The Post’s Jon Heyman on Friday morning, and according to FanSided’s Robert Murray, the Brewers are receiving first baseman Andrew Vaughan in return for Civale and cash.

Civale, 30, had asked for a trade from Milwaukee after being told he’d be moved from the rotation to the bullpen due to the arrival of prospect Jacob Misiorowski.

“I just very respectfully said that Aaron would really like an opportunity to continue his career as a starter,” Civale’s agent, Jack Toffey, told The Athletic of his message to the Brewers’ front office. “He’s going to be a free agent at the end of the year.”

Civale should have no issues breaking into the White Sox rotation, which is one of the worst in baseball as it stands.

Chicago, the worst team in the American League with a 23-46 record, has a team ERA of 4.19, the eighth-worst mark in MLB.

Ironically, Civale’s ERA this season is even worse – 4.91 – in five starts with the Brewers this season.

The Northeastern product does have a solid track record in his seven-year MLB career, including some strong seasons as a member of the Guardians rotation.

In his rookie year with Cleveland in 2019, Civale notched a career-best 2.34 ERA in 10 starts, which he matched in 13 starts with the Guardians in 2023 before he was traded to the Rays midseason.

Civale is on a one-year, $8 million contract before he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

He most recently started in Milwaukee’s 7-1 loss to the Braves on Monday, allowing two runs and five hits in 4 ½ innings.
