In Berrien County, Michigan, there will be no court trial for a man accused of domestic violence whose estranged wife was later discovered deceased in his South Loop apartment.

Adam Beckerink was outside the Berrien County courthouse on Friday morning with his parents and attorney.

The I-Team was the sole media presence in the courtroom as Beckerink entered a no contest plea to charges of domestic violence and interfering with a 911 call from his wife, Caitlin Tracey. He also admitted to one count of contempt for breaching his bond conditions. This unexpected agreement allowed for the dismissal of the resisting arrest charges he also faced.

Police body camera footage from August 2024 captures Beckerink in a confrontation with officers while Tracey is visibly distressed after calling for police assistance. This footage was permitted by the court for the trial initially scheduled for June. However, the trial will no longer occur.

By pleading no contest, Beckerink chooses not to dispute the charges, although it does not constitute an admission of guilt. The judge informed Beckerink that the plea would be regarded as guilty when sentencing occurs on October 20.

Last fall, Tracey was discovered lifeless in the stairwell of Beckerink’s condominium, suffering from multiple skull and rib fractures. An assistant Cook County state’s attorney indicated that Beckerink is suspected in connection with her death.
