WATCH: Illegal street racing 'takeover' explodes as hundreds swarm streets and suspects bolt

In the dead of night last weekend, a tumultuous scene unfolded at a Georgia intersection, as a throng of young street racers took over, causing disruption and alarming residents. This latest incident marks yet another instance of illegal street racing “takeovers” that have been troubling communities nationwide.

The Atlanta Police Department responded to reports of reckless street racing at the crossroads of James Jackson Parkway and Bolton Road around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. The racers were reportedly obstructing traffic, executing dangerous maneuvers like “laying drag” and performing illegal drifting stunts, commonly referred to as “donuts,” according to the police statement.

When officers arrived, they encountered a significant assembly of about 200 people congregating at the intersection.

Authorities also recovered multiple firearms in the search, and both vehicles involved in the traffic stop were impounded.

“The Atlanta Police Department extends its appreciation to the Georgia State Patrol for their continued partnership and assistance,” the department said in a statement.

“Illegal street racing will not be tolerated in the City of Atlanta; Individuals engaging in this activity will be arrested, charged, and have their vehicles impounded.”

The Atlanta Police Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
