His personal battle with cancer drove Pancoe to conquer the tallest mountains on each continent, a challenge known as the “Explorer’s Grand Slam.”

The Northwestern University graduate was tackling the fifth-highest peak in the world, in the Himalayas, when he lost his life.

According to Lurie, Alex’s endeavors have contributed over $1 million to pediatric brain tumor research. To honor his philanthropy, a portion of the hospital has been dedicated as The Pancoe Family Foundation Care Team Station.

Pancoe’s wife, Nina Laski Pancoe, expressed on Instagram, “You passed away doing what you loved, in a place you cherished. Your legacy will never fade, ensuring that your extraordinary nature is always remembered.”

Lurie Children’s Hospital sent its deepest sympathies to Pancoe’s family, with staff saying they are profoundly grateful for the impact he made on so many lives.
