A week after Israel initiated an unexpected assault on Iran with the intent to dismantle its nuclear program, attention has now shifted to the nation’s elusive supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Following an Iranian missile attack striking an Israeli hospital on Thursday, Israel Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a statement declaring that “Khamenei will be held accountable for his crimes,” and remarked during a site visit that “a person like that should not exist,” later labeling him “the modern day Hitler,” as reported by the Times of Israel.
Throughout his prolonged tenure, Khamenei has forged an impervious barrier surrounding himself within and beyond Iran’s borders. However, with Israel targeting some of his closest aides and high-ranking security officials, as well as considerably undermining its militant Islamist allies in the region, the supreme leader is starting to appear increasingly isolated.
