FORT WORTH, Texas — Golf plays a crucial role in the life of Marine veteran Andrew Bachelder, a dual-time winner of the Warrior Open, guiding him forward. However, it wasn’t always his reality.

Bachelder survived a helicopter crash in 2009 while on duty in Afghanistan, which left him with severe injuries, including numerous fractures. His wife, Debi, recalled how he faced multiple challenges upon his return home.

“He was gradually digging deeper into this hole,” Debi shared.

Bachelder admitted he attempted to take his own life.

“At one point, you’re like, I’m done with it,” Bachelder shared. “That’s the story of so many Veterans each day.”

Bachelder credits Debi for saving his life, “She’s my hero.”

Bachelder expressed gratitude for being given another shot at life. Today, he actively supports fellow veterans experiencing difficulties through the nonprofit Loops Fore Troops, which he co-founded. Their aim is to empower Veterans by training them as caddies, providing them with skills and knowledge for future success.

“It allows the veterans to get on the golf course and battle that 4 inches in between the ears, whether it’s hitting the golf ball or walking the player,” Bachelder said.
