Police warn of unpermitted ‘beach takeover' parties in East Bay

Authorities in the East Bay are on heightened alert due to social media chatter about two unpermitted “beach takeover” events scheduled for this Sunday and Tuesday.

The Alameda Police Department has expressed concerns that these gatherings, which are attracting large numbers of young attendees, have the potential to become uncontrollable.

One of the planned events includes an advertised game featuring toy guns and water balloons, reminiscent of an assassin-style activity.

While these games may seem harmless at first glance, law enforcement officials warn that past experiences indicate they can quickly escalate.

“It all sounds like good fun,” remarked Sgt. Chris Feliciano of the East Bay Regional Park District Police.

“However, when these activities start affecting parkgoers who are not participants, disrupting their enjoyment, it becomes a significant issue.”

Officials say extra officers will be patrolling local beaches to keep things from getting out of hand.

“If you like to come and follow the rules, we welcome you,” Feliciano told NBC.

“Anything starts going sideways or you start disturbing the peace of other people in the area, then that’s when we will have to step in and make sure that we don’t have those minors that are drinking, we don’t have people smoking on the beach.”

Police are also urging parents to talk to their kids about steering clear of the unpermitted gatherings.
