LOS ANGELES — Bad Bunny, known for his Latin trap and reggaeton flair, is set to headline the NFL’s prestigious Super Bowl halftime show next year in Northern California.
The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced Sunday that Bad Bunny will perform at Levi’s Stadium on February 8 in Santa Clara, California.
The Puerto Rican sensation’s invitation follows a significant career milestone: a historic Puerto Rico residency this month drawing over half a million fans and topping the nominees list for the upcoming Latin Grammys. He remains one of the world’s most streamed artists with hits like “Un Verano Sin Ti,” an entirely Spanish-language album.
“The emotions go beyond my personal feelings,” Bad Bunny expressed in a statement. “It’s about those who paved the way so I can make this moment happen… this is for my community, my culture, and our history. Go tell your grandmother we’re the SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW.”
Roc Nation’s Jay-Z remarked that Bad Bunny’s contributions to Puerto Rico are genuinely motivating, adding they are thrilled to have him on such a huge stage.
At 31, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, has secured three Grammys and 12 Latin Grammys. He continues to be a global representative for Latin music, has acted in films like “Bullet Train,” “Caught Stealing,” and “Happy Gilmore 2,” and collaborated with renowned fashion labels. Heading into the Latin Grammys with 12 nominations, he surpasses producer and songwriter Édgar Barrera.
Roc Nation and Emmy-winning producer Jesse Collins will serve as co-executive producers of the halftime show. Hamish Hamilton will serve as director.
Last year, Kendrick Lamar shined with guest SZA in New Orleans, setting the record for the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show with 133.5 million viewers. His performance surpassed the audience for Michael Jackson’s 1993 show.
