LOS ANGELES — An explosion early Friday claimed three lives and is being inspected, at least initially, as a possible training mishap, according to a law enforcement official who was briefed on the situation and spoke to The Associated Press anonymously since they were not authorized to disclose details publicly.
Los Angeles County Fire Department said it responded to calls about a possible explosion around 7:30 a.m.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has not officially confirmed any casualties. Attorney General Pam Bondi mentioned that she was informed of three fatalities by U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli’s office, though his office did not immediately respond to requests for further details.
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office stated that he has been briefed on the incident, which took place at the LA County Sheriff’s Special Operations Bureau located in East Los Angeles.
