St. Johns County Fire Rescue said the fire happened around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, and all five boaters are safe.
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — According to St. Johns County Fire Rescue, five boaters have been reported safe after a fire broke out on their sailboat on the St. Johns River near the entrance of Julington Creek shortly after noon on Sunday.
In a Facebook post, SJFR said firefighters responded to the boat fire around 12:15 p.m. Sunday.
Upon arrival at the location where Julington Creek meets the St. Johns River, firefighters discovered the sailboat engulfed in flames and smoke, with five individuals in the water.
SJFR stated in a post that all five individuals were rescued by another boater who brought them to shore. Subsequently, a JFRD fireboat arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.
SJFR said no one was injured in the fire, and its cause is still under investigation.
