Bondi Survivor: Cops Held Me Back During Terror Attack

Bondi Beach terror survivor Vanessa Miller says police hid and physically stopped her from fighting back while gunmen sprayed bullets and her three-year-old daughter was missing in the chaos.

In a harrowing recount of the Bondi foreshore attack, Miller shared with Australian host Erin Molan the terrifying moment she became separated from her daughter Gigi as gunfire erupted around them. Amid the chaos, Miller frantically screamed, “Where is my baby? Where’s my baby?” even as others nearby urged her to remain silent to avoid drawing the shooters’ attention.

Miller described encountering two police officers nearby—one critically injured and the other unharmed but taking cover behind a vehicle. She expressed frustration at their inaction, saying, “These police officers were hiding behind a car.” Driven by desperation, she attempted to seize the wounded officer’s rifle in a bid to fend off the attackers herself. However, another officer intervened, preventing her from doing so.

Criticizing the officers’ response, Miller accused them of restraining her while the attack raged on. “You are weak. You could have saved so many more people’s lives,” she charged, alleging that they merely observed the violence unfold rather than taking decisive action. Meanwhile, little Gigi, separated from her mother, navigated the blood-streaked scene alone until a brave, pregnant bystander shielded her with her own body, exemplifying the courage that Miller felt was lacking in the police response.

Miller’s account has fueled public outrage over the New South Wales police response, with other witnesses corroborating tales of officers seemingly paralyzed by fear while civilians risked their lives to protect the vulnerable. Miller insists that those who stopped her bear responsibility, arguing that a mother’s instinct to confront danger should have been matched, if not surpassed, by the trained officers present. She calls for accountability, questioning why those sworn to protect and serve appeared less willing to act than unarmed civilians.
