(NEXSTAR) — It was a beautiful day for some racing in South Carolina as the NASCAR Xfinity Series returned to the legendary Darlington Raceway for the Sports Clips Haircuts VFW Help a Hero 200.
Christopher Bell in the No. 19 car won this event last May. He was a pole sitter Saturday and looked to start strong, but at the end of stage one, Harrison Burton finished with the lead.
Shifting into stage two, one driver was dominant: the No. 7 car of Justin Allgaier. He led most of the 45 laps to take the stage two win.
The third and final stage was littered with cautions, but with about 15 laps to go, Brandon Jones was able to take the lead.
Jones got out in front and didn’t look back, taking home his second career win in Darlington and his first overall victory since the 2022 season.
“We’ve been knocking at the door getting this win,” Jones said after the race. “It’s just, putting all the right puzzle pieces in the right place and having it all come together. And today it just finally all came together.”
Turning the page to Sunday for the NASCAR Cup Series race, a former champion will be on the pole — William Byron in the No. 24 car.
Byron won the Goodyear 400 back in 2023 and considers Darlington one of his top tracks.
“Ever since I’ve been here as a driver, I just enjoyed coming down here,” Byron said. “It’s a tough challenge. It really tests you mentally, physically and, you know, off the track.”
Meanwhile, the Xfinity Series will head to Tennessee for the SciAps 300 at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
You can catch that race on The CW on Saturday, April 12 at 5 p.m. ET.
