(NEXSTAR) – Brandon Jones, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, showcased his incredible skill on Saturday by leading the #20 car from the pole position to a victorious finish at the Kansas Lottery 300.
The first stage ran smoothly, with many drivers opting for the lower line at Kansas Speedway. Justin Allgaier managed to pass Brandon Jones to secure a win in stage one.
As stage two commenced, Jeff Burton’s spin triggered a caution flag. After the pit stops, season champion Connor Zilisch briefly took the lead, but it was Justin Allgaier who clinched another stage victory, with Brandon Jones close behind in second place.
Stage three took a dramatic turn with 38 laps remaining when Nick Sanchez moved up and collided with Justin Bonsignore, sending Bonsignore crashing into the inside wall.
On the restart, several playoff drivers including Zilisch and Jones went to pit, while Allgaier stayed out hoping to keep track position.
Ultimately it was Jones and Zilisch fighting for first place, with Jones taking the checkered flag.
Jones remained humble in victory lane, reminding that the victory was not his alone.
“This outcome is the result of many dedicated efforts, it’s not just about me,” expressed Jones. “There are numerous hands involved with this race car, and achieving such a successful event like today is a tremendous accomplishment.”
This win secures Jones’ spot in the Round of 8, while other drivers will face off in the final Round of 12 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway next week.
You can catch that race on The CW Saturday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. ET.
