The vote was close:
It comes after a rebellion by four House conservatives upended plans to advance the bill on Friday morning.
Late-night developments saw members of the House Budget Committee reconvening in Washington for a pivotal 10 p.m. meeting to cast their votes on the progression of the legislation. The panel approved it with a close, almost party-line result of 17 to 16, while four Republicans opted to vote “present.”
Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., made an unexpected visit to the committee room just before the proceedings commenced, informing reporters, “We believe tonight will be favorable. We’re on the verge of discovering the outcome.”
