On Monday, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) took a bold step by introducing a resolution aimed at removing Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) from his position in the House of Representatives. The resolution arises from serious accusations including domestic violence, sexual misconduct, false claims about military service, and unethical financial gains through federal contracts during his time in office.

Since November, Mills has been the subject of an investigation by the House Ethics Committee. This inquiry began after Mace’s previous attempt to censure him was unsuccessful, leading to the allegations being passed to the committee for further examination.

“The political establishment has shielded Cory Mills for too long, and it’s time to hold him accountable,” Mace declared in a public statement.

She added, “Our efforts to censure him and remove him from committee roles were thwarted by both parties, but we remain determined to pursue justice.”

The House Ethics Committee has not yet disclosed its findings on the investigation into Mills. Nevertheless, Mace insists that the case against him is “compelling and substantial.”

She further accused Mills of “assaulting women and coercing them into silence, engaging in online harassment, misrepresenting his military credentials, and exploiting his congressional position for personal gain.”

“Any Member who votes to keep him here is voting to protect a woman beater and a fraud,” the South Carolina Republican asserted. “He needs to be expelled immediately.” 

Mace’s resolution comes a week after former Reps. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) both resigned over allegations of sexual misconduct.

An expulsion resolution against Mills would need support from two-thirds of the House to pass. 

It’s unclear whether enough Republicans in the narrowly divided House would back Mace’s measure. 

“I personally think that you should allow due process,” Mills told reporters when asked about the expulsion push, according to The Hill. 

“The precedence that she’s setting right now is that you only have to be investigated, and she’s under investigation,” he continued. “So I think that, by her own admission, she’s kind of also saying that she should be expelled as well.”

The House Ethics Committee has been investigating Mace since last year over allegations that she improperly collected reimbursements for lodging expenses. 

A spokesperson for Mills did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
