Monday’s jackpot has become one of the largest in Powerball’s history, ranking as the sixth-biggest prize ever offered.
WASHINGTON — On Monday night, a staggering $1.1 billion was at stake in the Powerball lottery, making it a highly anticipated event.
The jackpot has surpassed the billion-dollar mark for the second time this year, following Saturday’s drawing which didn’t see a winner. Should someone win on Monday, the cash payout would be an impressive $503.4 million.
The jackpot has been building since September 6, which marked the last time winners successfully overcame the daunting odds of 1 in 292.2 million.
As the sixth-largest prize in the game’s history, the jackpot will continue to grow if it remains unclaimed.
This year has already seen three major Powerball victories: a monumental $1.8 billion win in September, a $526.5 million prize in California in March, and a $328.5 million win in Oregon in January.
