The attack by Iran on the Al-Udeid U.S. Air Force Base represents “a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty,” according to a statement from the spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday. The statement emphasized that “Qatar reserves the right to respond directly” to this “brazen aggression” from Iran.
Dr. Majed Al Ansari, who is both an advisor to Qatar’s Prime Minister and a ministry spokesperson, noted that “Qatar’s air defenses successfully thwarted the attack by intercepting the Iranian missiles.”

Given that Qatar is aligned with the Iranian regime overall and openly supports Hamas, this course of action seems ill-advised for Iran – even if the mullahs warned Qatar of this strike ahead of time to minimize Qatari casualties. Qatar’s statement should be read with a highly critical eye, though.
