The United States Naval Academy located in Maryland was placed under lockdown on Thursday due to threats directed at the military institution, resulting in one individual sustaining injuries, officials reported.

The injured party was transported by air to a hospital where they were reported to be in stable condition, according to Lieutenant Naweed Lemar, spokesperson for the base that accommodates the academy.

Responding to the reported suspicious activity were the Naval Support Activity Annapolis security team and local law enforcement agencies. Further information about the threat and the nature of the injury was not immediately disclosed.

Lemar had said earlier that the academy in Annapolis was on lockdown “out of an abundance of caution.”

Authorities were observed near Bancroft Hall, recognized for housing midshipmen across its more than 1,600 dormitory rooms, and deemed the largest single college dormitory globally, as noted on the academy’s website.
